The Florida Gator soccer team looked sharp in its opening SEC tilt against the Alabama Crimson Tide. They're hoping that success will follow them when they make the trip up to Oxford to take on Ole Miss in their SEC road opener Friday.
Ole Miss is currently sporting an 8-1-1 record, having played one more game than Florida thus far in the season. And while much of Gainesville has been abuzz over Savannah Jordan and her ability to find the back of the net, Ole Miss has a player who's arguably even more dominant. Senior striker Rafaelle Souza leads the nation in goals (11) and points (25) after scoring in seven of her first 10 contests.
For Florida, they'll have to rely on goaltending and a back line that has only given up one goal in their past six matches. Florida head coach Becky Burleigh says this weekend will be a big test for her team.
Since the Gators have only played away from home three times so far this season, Burleigh feels the younger players may have some difficulty coping on the road. She hopes if that is the case, her more tenured players will help the freshmen-laden team with facing adversity away from home.
You can hear the game tonight live on ESPN 850 WRUF starting at 7:50pm. Florida will travel to Missouri to take on the Tigers Sunday at 2pm.
