The Florida Gator football team used a stingy defense and a solid rushing night from running back Matt Jones to secure a 24-7 road win at Kentucky Saturday night.
The win over the Wildcats was Florida’s 27th straight against Kentucky.
Florida jumped out to a 7-0 lead but Kentucky tied the score on a fake field goal that was run in for a touchdown by the Wildcat kicker. But after that, the Gator defense stuffed the Wildcat offense and had enough offense of its own to get the win.
Running back Matt Jones had a nice night running the ball for Florida, gaining a career high 176 yards on the ground while quarterback Tyler Murphy, making his first career start, was solid as well, throwing for a touchdown and running for one while going 15 of 18 for 156 yards in the air.
The Gator defense was again dominant, limiting the Wildcats to less than 200 yards of total offense and Kentucky had less than 50 yards rushing as well as the Gators continue to lead the nation in that department.
Florida is now 2-0 in SEC play and 3-1 overall and will next play at home next Saturday against Arkansas.
