The Florida Gator soccer team lost a heart breaker to the South Carolina Gamecocks 2-1 in double overtime late Friday night in Gainesville. The Gators have now lost two consecutive conference games after falling to Missouri last Sunday and stand 8-3-1 on the season.
The Gators went down early to the Gamecocks after giving up the first goal of the game to South Carolina midfielder Bay Daniel for her second of the season. Florida was able to fight back when striker Savannah Jordan volleyed a ball into the back of the net with less than a minute before half. Florida coach Becky Burleigh thought the goal would provide some momentum.
That would be all the scoring for a while though for both teams as it took double overtime to determine the winner. Florida thought it had the game, but their game winner was called off do to an offsides. Moments later South Carolina's Taylor Leach would score off a set piece to end the game. Jordan, who got called on the offsides, says it was an unlucky break.
The Gators will have a chance at redemption this weekend when they host Auburn on Sunday at 2 pm.
