Local High School Football Preview

By on October 24th, 2013

High school football in North Central Florida gets off to an early start this week with three matchups tonight.

North Marion @ Santa Fe – The Raiders are 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the district. But they have rattled off three straight wins coming into this one. Meanwhile North Marion is 5-2 on the year, and have won three of their last four. So it could be a pretty even matchup that could come down to the turnover margin.

“In terms of trying to control the football on offense, do not turn the ball over. They'll kill you. In football you can't turn it over anyway, but if you do it against a team like that, they'll just smother you in a hurry.” said Bill Wiles, head football coach at Santa Fe.

Still, Wiles is happy with where his team is at this point in the season.

“I just think we've kind of found our personality so to speak. Our confidence is growing, and I think we're playing well overall,” he said.

Wiles On His Squad

This one is the late game tonight, getting started at 7:30pm.

Fletcher @ Buchholz – The Bobcats will be looking for their first win in district play tonight as they take on the Fletcher Senators.

The Bobcats have lost three of their last four. Fletcher is 1-1 in the district.

The Bobcats will lean on junior tailback Gerald Donald, who's racked up 500 yards on the season. This one gets underway at 7.

Dixie County @ Newberry – Kepa Sarduy and the Newberry Panthers are 4-3 on the year, getting a strong year from senior back Monte Seabrook. Seabrook is averaging nearly nine yards a carry.

Newberry is 1-2 in district play, but they take on a Dixie County squad that is undefeated in 1A District 7. They haven't lost a game outside the district either as they sit at 5-0. Dixie has three running backs all averaging over seven yards a carry. This one also gets underway at 7pm.
