A look at some of the things happening in our Wednesday Sports Update…

** The Gator men’s basketball team could be without starting point guard Scottie Wilbekin after it was announced he suffered a high ankle sprain Monday in a game against Connecticut.   Florida next plays Tuesday at home against nationally ranked Kansas.

** According to sources it is looking more and more like Gator guard Eli Carter will redshirt this season.   The transfer is still trying to recover from a broken leg he suffered last season.

** In college football news, UCLA has reached a contract extension with coach Jim Mora after reports surfaced about his availability for the job at Washington, his alma mater.  Steve Sarkisian left Washington for the USC job.

** Oregon redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcus Mariota will return to school next season and not enter the NFL Draft.   Some had Mariota as a first round choice but he instead opts to return to the Ducks.

** Lots of baseball news today; the New York Yankees have reportedly reached a contract agreement with free agent outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury who played for the rival Boston Red Sox last season.

** The Tampa Bay Rays get pitcher Heath Bell from the Arizona Diamondbacks and catcher Ryan Hanigan from the Cincinnati Reds in separate deals.   Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia leaves Boston and will now play for the Miami Marlins.

** In the NBA, Philadelphia beats Orlando 126-125 in double overtime, overshadowing a 43 point performance from Arron Afflalo of the Magic.   And the Miami Heat’s 10 game winning streak is over after they were upset by the Detroit Pistons 107-97 in Miami.
