Heat Blasted; Magic Lose, SEC Hoops In Sports Update

Some SEC men’s hoops results, a bad night for Florida NBA teams and more in our Thursday Sports Update…

** Around the SEC in men’s hoops, Tennessee bounces back from a loss at
Florida to beat Ole Miss at home 86-70; South Carolina gets its first SEC win, an 80-52 drubbing of Texas A&M; and Vanderbilt beat Georgia in Athens 59-54.   Tonight, Alabama plays Auburn.

** Not a good night for Florida teams in the NBA as Miami gets rocked at home by Oklahoma City 112-95 and Orlando loses to Toronto 98-83.

** The Florida women’s tennis team had its match moved indoors because of cold and rain but it still beat UCF 7-0.

** In local sports, Eastside will face Ocala Trinity Catholic tonight in a regional quarterfinal match at Citizens Field.

** Outfielder Lance Berkman is retiring after a 15 year big league career.  He was a first round pick out of Rice back in 1997.

** The Pro Football Hall of Fame will announce its 2014 class on Saturday.   Many believe defensive lineman Michael Strahan, offensive lineman Walter Jones and running back Jerome Bettis have a good chance of being named to the Hall.
