The Florida men’s basketball team goes into hostile territory in Lexington, Kentucky to rally for a 69-59 win over the Wildcats Saturday night.
Florida remains unbeaten with the win in conference play and the Gators have now won 17 consecutive games. The Gators will now likely be the second ranked team in the country behind Syracuse after number two Arizona was beaten earlier this week by Arizona State.
Trailing at halftime by three points, Florida turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and it got two nice scoring games from forward Casey Prather who scored 24 points and from guard Scottie Wilbekin who finished with 23.
The Gators trailed 45-38 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game before going on a nice run to put themselves back in the lead. Kentucky coach John Calipari was whistled for a technical foul with 8:14 left that seemed to swing momentum to Florida. The Gators went on a 13-3 run and held off the Wildcats by hitting clutch free throws down the stretch.
The 23-2 Gators will now return home to face Auburn on Wednesday.
