The Florida gymnastics team is over halfway through its regular season, still unbeaten.
The Gators compete at home again this Friday after taking down the Arkansas Razorbacks last Friday.
The No. 2 Gators welcome another top ranked, SEC opponent to the O’Dome on Friday, the No. 3 LSU Tigers.
The Tigers will pose a threat to the Gators as a tough competitor with a very similar team average. The Gators’ team average is 197.392 and the Tiger’s average is 197.379. The last time the two teams met in regular season, the Tigers edged out the Gators in Baton Rouge 196.875-196.575.
“When we have great opponents it really elevates the level of our team’s gymnastics,” said Florida head coach Rhonda Faehn. “They really step it up one extra notch. I know that they are excited to be able to have this opportunity to get out there.”
LSU is a very strong road team, and this meet will be their fourth consecutive on the road. They turned in a 197.875 last week, their highest score, and the nation’s second highest total. And like the Gators, the Tigers have turned in perfect 10’s this season, two on the floor exercise.
Friday’s meet will be the eighth annual “Link to Pink” meet. The event is aimed at raising awareness of breast cancer prevention and treatment. Every team in the SEC will participate in a “pink” meet this season.
“It’s an incredible cause that we’re honored to be a part of. We’re excited to have LSU come in for it,” said Faehn. “It’s where both schools lay down their colors, and we wear pink in honor of the breast cancer survivors. I think it’s going to be a great night of incredible gymnastics. Two very strong teams and we’re excited to get out there.”
Meet time is set for 7pm in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
