The University of Florida track and field team heads to College Station, Texas on Thursday for the start of the SEC Indoor Championships. The second ranked Gators currently have six SEC?Indoor championships for men, and seven for the women.
Gator coach?Mike Holloway says that his team is very prepared for this championship season.
“We are preparing for the SEC Championships this weekend, it’s a very exciting time. We’ve had a very good preparation for the championship season on both the men’s and women’s side. We expect great performances on both sides heading into the weekend. It should be an exciting championship as always. I think the league takes a lot of pride in the fact that we believe that we are the best league in the country, and we don’t think this year is any exception.”
Florida’s biggest competition in this championship meet is Arkansas and Texas A&M, but coach Holloway claims that he’s only concerned about his Gators.
“To be honest with you, both teams have great athletes and coaches, other than that I couldn’t tell you much. I coach at the University of Florida, and my job is to get my team ready.”
The first event begins?Thursday afternoon with men’s 60 meters, and the last event will occur on Saturday?with women’s 4×400 relay.
Holloway is more than ready, and says his team trains for championship season during regular season.
“I think we prepare for these situations when you’re hired here, you’re not hired to just be good in the regular season, we’re hired to be good in the championship season, so that’s what we do every year. This team is no different than any other. They know from day one that our job is to be ready for what we call the championship season.”
