The fourth ranked?Florida Gator lacrosse team?(7-1) will host the Winthrop Eagles (2-3) tonight at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
The Gators are coming off two victories last week against Loyola, 14-13, and Michigan, 20-4, which pushed their winning streak to seven games.
The Gators rallied from a four goal deficit against Loyola in the last 11 minutes with the winning goal coming from junior midfielder Nora Barry. Gator coach?Amanda O’Leary gives credit to the two assistant coaches, Erica LaGrow and Michelle Tumolo, for securing the victory.
“I thought Erica and Michelle did a great job of calling that play out and Nora scored so we ended up winning that game with 30 seconds left on the clock,” O’Leary said.
While the Gators are a very young team with?11 true freshmen on the roster, O’Leary feels confident in the team’s ability to win games and continue getting better as the season continues.
“They’ve really worked hard and there’s very little drop-off so we feel really confident in putting anybody in games at this point and we’re going to need to as the season progresses,” O’Leary said.
Winthrop is coming off a loss to Cincinnati, 10-9, a team the Gators beat 19-5 last month in Gainesville. Winthrop is led by junior attacker Jenna Kasmarick who leads the team with 19 points and 25 draw controls.
First face-off is set for 6:30PM.
