With now one win under their belt in the SEC Tournament, the No. 1 ranked Florida Gators will take on the 4th seed Tennessee Volunteers Saturday afternoon.
The Gators are coming into this game fresh off a 23 point win over the Missouri Tigers while the Volunteers will be fresh off their 15 point victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks. This will be the third meeting between the two this season with the Gators taking both matchups in the regular season.
The Gators will again look for huge performances out of their four horsemen in seniors Casey Prather, Patric Young, Will Yeguete and Scottie Wilbekin. In their quarterfinal match up against the Tigers, Wilbekin led the way for the Gators finishing with 15 points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists. Most importantly, Wilbekin finished with zero turnovers, and as the floor general for the Gators offense, that will be imperative moving forward.
The Volunteers will be looking for big performances out of their own upperclassmen. Junior Jarnell Stokes finished their quarterfinal matchup with a game high 22 points, while senior Jordan McRae finished with 14 of his own. Stokes and McRae were the only two Volunteers that finished in double figures on Friday, but against the SEC?s top defense they will only need to play better.
The Gators will be looking for the complete sweep on Saturday with a third straight win over the Volunteers, which is no easy task. These are two teams that know each other very well and it Volunteers head coach Cuonzo Martin will no doubt have his team ready.
The Gators have now won 24 straight games and sit at 19-0 in SEC play. The Gators are also 13-2 so far this year in single digit games and that stat alone will be very important for Gators head coach Billy Donovan and his team moving forward.
The winner of Saturday?s contest will receive a spot in the SEC championship on Sunday against either the Kentucky Wildcats or Georgia Bulldogs. All in all, with the goal of a fourth?SEC championship in mind, the match up against Tennessee will give the Gators yet more preparation for their run at a potential third national championship. ??
