Bubba Watson gets his second Masters victory

For the second time in the last three years, Bubba Watson leaves Augusta National as the winner of the Masters.

Watson shot a 69 in the final round to take home the green jacket by three strokes.

“Solid golf still has a chance. I knew the difficulty coming up, the difficulties the rest of the way, the emotions that it takes, the emotions you have to fight, (and) the thoughts you have to fight off,” said Watson. “So I knew if I just played some solid golf – some great golf, you’ll always have a chance.”

Watson joins a list that includes Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, Gary Player, and Phil Mickelson as multiple-time champions at the Masters.

He also becomes the seventh golfer ever to have his first two major victories come at Augusta National.

“To win twice, to be with the great names… small town guy named Bubba now has two green jackets,” Watson said. “It’s pretty wild.”

There was no final-round drama like in 2012 when Watson edged out South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen in a sudden-death playoff for the victory.

He held off 20-year-old Jordan Spieth (72) who tied with Jonas Blixt (71) for runner-up.

“I got lucky enough to have two green jackets. I’m just trying to keep my tour card every year,” Watson said. “And if people say that I’m a good player, that’s great but I’m not trying to play golf for a living. I’m not trying to play golf for everyone to tell me how great I am or how I’m one of the greats of the game. I’m trying to play golf because I love it. I love the game.”
