Some NCAA news for Gator teams, the TPC is history, big league baseball and the NBA and NHL playoffs all in our Monday Sports Update…
** The Gator lacrosse team beats Denver at home 19-9 to advance to play Northwestern at home this Saturday in NCAA Tournament action.
** Both Gator tennis teams advance to the Sweet 16 after two wins this weekend at home.
** The Gator softball team gets a number five national seed for the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Florida will host a regional starting Friday with UCF, USF and Florida A&M in the field.
** Martin Kaymer wins the TPC by one shot over Jim Furyk with a 13 under par total. Sergio Garcia was two strokes back.
** In the NBA Playoffs, the LA Clippers rally to beat Oklahoma City 101-99 to even that series at 2-2. And Paul George scores 39 to lead Indiana past Washington 95-92 to go up 3-1 in that series. Tonight, Miami is at Brooklyn up 2-1 and San Antonio is at Portland.
** In the NHL playoffs, the New York Rangers stave off elimination and beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 to even the series at 3-3; the deciding game will be played in Pittsburgh Tuesday. Chicago beat Minnesota 2-1 to go up 3-2 in that series. Today, Boston is at Montreal and Anaheim visits the LA Kings.
** In MLB, Tampa Bay is now 16-22 after losing to Cleveland 6-5 on Sunday. The Rays begin a west coast trip with a game in Seattle tonight. Atlanta completes a sweep of the Chicago Cubs with a 5-2 win and San Diego completes a sweep of Miami with a 5-4 win. Miami is at the LA Dodgers tonight while Atlanta is at San Francisco.
** The NFL Draft is over but several Gator players have found homes as free agents after going undrafted. Trey Burton, Damien Jacobs, and Jonatthan Harrison are among the players who have signed on as free agents.
