A former Gator gets called up to the big leagues, the NBA and NHL playoffs, MLB and more in our Wednesday Sports Update…
** Former Gator pitcher Anthony DeSchlafani has been called up to the Miami Marlins and he will start tonight in a game in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. “Disco” as he was nicknamed at Florida was an All-Star last year pitching in AA Jacksonville.
** In baseball Tuesday, Atlanta blanks San Francisco 5-0; the LA Dodgers beat Miami 7-1 and Tampa Bay edges Seattle 2-1.
** Former Gator football star Joe Haden has signed a five year, $68 million extension with the Cleveland Browns.
** The Gator men’s basketball team officially adds transfer Jon Horford to the program as the former Michigan Wolverine is enrolled in Summer A at Florida.
** In the NBA playoffs, a controversial call at the end of the game gives Oklahoma City a wild 105-104 win over the LA Clippers to go up 3-2 in that series. Washington staves off elimination by blowing out Indiana but the Wizards still trail 3-2.
** The Detroit Pistons have hired former Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy to be their new head coach.
** In the NHL playoffs, the New York Rangers complete a comeback from down 3-1 to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 and advance to the Eastern Conference finals. Chicago beat Minnesota 2-1 to win that series 4-2 and the Black Hawks advance to the Western Conference final.
