The College World Series starts in softball, teams arrive in Gainesville for an NCAA Baseball Regional and more in our Thursday Sports Update…
** The College World Series begins today in softball in Oklahoma City and Florida will face Baylor in the opening game at noon. Three other games are scheduled to be played today.
** Long Beach State, North Carolina and College of Charleston and Florida baseball teams practice today in preparation for an NCAA Baseball Regional to be held in Gainesville starting tomorrow.
** The Gator track teams are at the NCAA East Regional starting today hoping to qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held in June in Eugene, Oregon.
** The Miami Heat fall to the Indiana Pacers 93-90 but still lead that NBA Eastern Conference Final series 3-2. Game 6 in Miami Friday. Tonight, Game 5 in San Antonio between the Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder with the series at 2-2.
** In baseball, Toronto wins its ninth straight game, beating Tampa Bay 3-2 while Boston beats Atlanta for the third straight time 4-0. Miami beats Washington 8-5. The Marlins and Rays are off today while Atlanta is at Boston.
** The French Open continues today after both the Williams sisters were beaten yesterday. Serena Williams was the women’s number one seed.
** Jacksonville has been awarded the 2016 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
