Tuesday Sports Update: U.S. Wins In World Cup; Gator Great Dies, Baseball Mourns Loss Of Gwynn

A lot happening today in our Tuesday Sports Update…

** The United States gets a huge win in the World Cup over Ghana 2-1 yesterday.   After scoring less than 40 seconds into the match, the U.S. saw Ghana tie the score late but the Stars And Stripes also scored a late goal to get the win and the points.  Portugal is next for the United States.

** Gator football great Larry Dupree has died from a heart attack at the age of 71.  He played running back at Florida during the 1960’s and was a one time teammate of Gator quarterback Steve Spurrier.

** The baseball world mourns the loss of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn who died Monday from cancer at age 54.   Gwynn was a 15 time All-Star, played in two World Series and never hit below .309 in a full season.

** In baseball yesterday, Tampa Bay beats Baltimore 5-4 while the Chicago Cubs beat Miami 5-4 and Atlanta lost 6-1 to Philadelphia.

** Former Gator pitcher Anthony DeSclafani has been called back up to the Miami Marlins from AAA New Orleans.

** In the College World Series, Louisville is the first team eliminated after losing to Texas while Vanderbilt wins its second straight game, beating UC Irvine 6-4.   Tonight, TCU plays Virginia and Ole Miss faces Texas Tech in an elimination game.
