World Cup Quarterfinals Set, Wimbledon, Former Gator Gets Big League Call Up In Sports Update

Even though the United States has been eliminated from the World Cup, the sports world rolls on in our Wednesday Sports Update…

** The quarterfinals for the World Cup are now set after the U.S. was beaten 2-1 yesterday by Belgium.  France faces Germany, Brazil takes on Colombia, Argentina faces Belgium and Netherlands faces Costa Rica.

** At Wimbledon, Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal are out after losing yesterday.  Novak Djokovic and defending men’s champ Andy Murray are scheduled to play today.

** In baseball, suddenly hot Tampa Bay stays that way with a 2-1 over the New York Yankees.  Atlanta has won six straight after beating the New York Mets 5-4 and Florida beat Philadelphia 5-4.   Those same match ups take place today.

** Former Gator pitcher Kevin Chapman has been called up to the big leagues by the Houston Astros.   Chapman has had big league experience before.

** A nice honor for former Gator softball pitcher Hannah Rogers as she is named the SEC Female Athlete of the Year after helping lead the Gators to a national championship.
