** At Wimbledon, men’s top seed Novak Djokovic struggled but advanced but defending champ Andy Murray was beaten on the grass. Roger Federer also wins. On the women’s side, third seed Simona Halep is a winner.
** In baseball, Atlanta has won seven straight after beating the New York Mets 3-1 and the Braves get a day off today. Tampa Bay has won five straight after sweeping the New York Yankees with a 6-3 win Wednesday and the Rays now tangle with Detroit. Miami blanks Philadelphia 5-0 and those teams play again today.
** A strange time for former Gator pitcher Kevin Chapman; one day after being called up to the Houston Astros, Chapman was sent back down to Triple A.
** The Gator baseball players who were drafted have now all signed and are playing professionally. Pitchers Karsten Whitson and Ryan Harris are playing for the Boston Red Sox at Lowell and Whitson will start a game on Friday.
** In the NBA, the New Jersey Nets have agreed to a contract with former Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins to be their new head coach, replacing Jason Kidd.
