** The All-Star teams have been announced for Major League Baseball’s All Star Game taking place in Minnesota in a few days. David Price is the only Tampa Bay Ray selected while Giancarlo Stanton is the only Marlin chosen. Atlanta gets pitchers Craig Kimbrel and Julio Tehran as well as infielder Freddie Freeman on the team.
** Former GHS and Florida State standout Tyler Holt has been called up to the Cleveland Indians from AAA. Holt made his debut with the club this weekend.
** In baseball action, Tampa Bay is red hot, defeating Detroit 7-3; the Rays have now won eight of nine and will play Kansas City tonight. Miami downs St.Louis 8-4 and the Marlins will begin a series at Arizona. The D’Backs beat Atlanta 5-1 and the Braves start a series tonight at the New York Mets.
** A thrilling men’s final at Wimbledon where top seed Novak Djokovic defeats Roger Federer in a five set match; it is the second Wimbledon title for Djokovic.
** Rain was a big factor for the races at Daytona this weekend and it shortened the NASCAR race Sunday. Aric Almirola gets his first career win, beating Brian Vickers and Kurt Busch.
** The San Antonio Spurs will keep a key piece of their successful puzzle when free agent Boris Diaw agrees to a new contract with the team.
