World Cup, Baseball, SEC Football In Sports Update

The World Cup finishes up, Major League Baseball goes to its All-Star break and SEC football isn’t too far away in our Friday Sports Update…

** The World Cup ends this weekend with the third place game on Saturday and the final between Germany and Argentina on Sunday.   ESPN 850 has live coverage of both matches at 3:30pm on Saturday and at 2:30 pm on Sunday.

** Major League Baseball has its final weekend of action before the All-Star Game in Minnesota.   Atlanta will play the Chicago Cubs while the Miami Marlins face the New York Mets and the Tampa Bay Rays tangle with Toronto.

** Fan voting places Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale and Chicago Cubs infielder Anthony Rizzo on the All-Star teams in their respective leagues.

** The New York Yankees got bad news on ace starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka; he is out at least six weeks with an elbow injury.   He is 12-4 on the season but has not pitched well in his last four outings.

** Former Gator pitcher Nick Maronde has been designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels.

** NBA free agent signings can now be formally announced but no word yet on LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh as to where they will end up as free agents.
