Gator football practices finally start, another injury to Tiger Woods, baseball results and more in our Monday Sports Update…
** The Gator football team officially begins practices today. Gator coach Will Muschamp said they will have split squad practices the first two days and the first open practice is scheduled for Thursday.
** The NFL exhibition season got underway Sunday with the annual Hall of Fame game won 17-13 by the New York Giants over the Buffalo Bills.
** Former Gator linebacker Jermaine Cunningham, trying to win a roster spot with the New York Jets, suffered a torn Achilles during a scrimmage.
** Another back injury forces Tiger Woods to withdraw from a tournament Sunday and it squarely puts his participation in this week’s PGA Championship in doubt.
** Another win for Dale Earnhardt Jr. as he wins the NASCAR race at Pocono Sunday. He now has three wins on the year and he is the leader in the Chase for the Cup standings as well.
** In baseball, the Atlanta Braves are swept at San Diego as they lose 4-3 Sunday. The Braves are now three and a half games behind Washington in the NL East. Miami loses to Cincinnati 7-3 as the Marlins fall three games below the .500 mark. Both the Braves and the Marlins are off today.
** Tampa Bay loses 7-5 to the LA Angels to fall three games below the .500 mark. The Rays open a long road trip at the Oakland A’s tonight.
