Several Gators, Big Names, Among NFL Roster Cuts

With the NFL regular season starting this week, teams had to get down to 53 man rosters and many big names and former Gator players were among those cut over the weekend.

Former Gator Jon Halapio was cut by New England while Tampa Bay released three Gators in running back Jeff Demps, defensive back Major Wright and wide receiver Solomon Patton.   Defensive lineman Justin Trattou was let go by Minnesota and offensive lineman Maurice Hurt was cut by Washington.  There is a chance some of these players could either be re-signed or signed by another team.

Among the big names let go were defensive back Champ Bailey, wide receiver Robert Meachem and kicker Shayne Graham by New Orleans, wide receiver Nate Burleson by Cleveland and kicker Ryan Succop by Kansas City.
