Wednesday Sports Update (9/3)

Getting closer to the start of the NFL season, bad news for one NFL team, baseball results, and more in our Wednesday Sports Update…

** With only one day before the start of the NFL season, the Denver Broncos received word that wide receiver Wes Welker has been banned by the league for four games for violating league rules on its performance enhancing drug policy.

** No word yet on whether or not Florida will attempt to make up its football game with Idaho that was suspended by weather last Saturday.   We could hear some news though as early as today.

** Bad news for Tennessee’s football team; they lose redshirt senior starting offensive lineman Jacob Gilliam to a season ending injury; he tore his ACL in Tennessee’s win over Utah State Sunday.

** The Gator volleyball team has a couple of tough matches this week; they’ll take on FSU in Tallahassee on Thursday before playing Texas Saturday.  UF is 3-0 on the young season.

** In baseball, the Atlanta Braves are shut out for the second straight day by Philadelphia, this time losing 4-0.   Miami loses 8-6 to the New York Mets and Toronto downs Tampa Bay 8-2.  All those teams play each other today.
