The Florida soccer team conceded a goal in the first five minutes to the Tennessee Volunteers but scored three unanswered goals to win 3-1 on Senior Night.
The Gators (12-4, 7-2) honored nine seniors, including defender Tessa Andujar, who scored Florida’s second goal off a penalty kick in the 75th minute.
“These seniors have done so much for us and I think it was up to us to make sure we sent them out on a good note,” said Florida head coach Becky Burleigh. “I think the most important thing is that we sort of rediscovered ourselves again tonight. We had lacked a little bit of urgency in last weekend’s games and that was not at all evident tonight. I think they played hard on both sides of the ball.”
The Gators worked the Volunteer defense all night long despite trailing 1-0 through the first 70 minutes of play. Florida had 27 shots compared to Tennessee’s nine.
Gator sophomore forward Savannah Jordan scored two goals to increase her season total to 13.
“We have great seniors on our team – a bunch of them in fact, and it was great to get a win for them tonight,” said Jordan. “Moving forward from here, it gives us a good boost going into Sunday’s game and getting ready to go into the SEC Tournament.”
The Gators will travel to Baton Rouge for their next game when they take on LSU on Sunday at 2 p.m.
