** ESPN 850 WRUF Sports has confirmed that the University of Florida will hire Doug Nussmeier to be the football team’s new offensive coordinator, replacing Kurt Roper. As of this morning, the hire had not been officially announced by UF.
** Two bowl games yesterday and victories to Marshall 52-23 over Northern Illinois in the Boca Raton Bowl and to Navy 17-16 over San Diego State in the Poinsettia Bowl. Today, the Bahamas Bowl has Central Michigan facing Western Kentucky and the Hawaii Bowl has Fresno State taking on Rice.
** FSU extends the contract of head coach Jimbo Fisher through the 2022 season; he’ll get a nice raise too.
** Florida A&M has hired Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Alex Wood to become the school’s new head football coach.
** The NFL’s Pro Bowl selections have been announced and a record nine members of the Denver Broncos make the team. Two former Gators, Pittsburgh center Maurkice Pouncey and Cleveland defensive back Joe Haden make the squad.
** In the NBA, Orlando tops Boston 100-95 and Miami loses to Philadelphia.
