No. 1 Florida Track Getting Ready for Razorback Invitational

The Gator track teams are still number one in the country following record-breaking performances at the Rod McCravy Memorial Invite last weekend in Kentucky. Florida had over 20 personal best performances and eight changes to the all-time record book on just the second day.

After the meet, Gator coach Mike Holloway said he was happy with the way his teams performed.

“I’m very, very pleased because we didn’t go in and get intimidated by the number of teams that were in the building. There were 15 programs there and I think there were 12 top-25 teams in the building.”

Both the men and women 4×4 relays broke NCAA and world records with their times of 3:04.22 and 3:29.58 respectively. The women recorded the 12th fastest all-conditions indoor time, and the 14th race under 3:30 in collegiate history.

Individual events were also an area of success for the Gators who took home 21 top-10 finishes. The team will be working harder in the individual events, to not only increase the number of top-10’s, but the number of event wins.

“Relays are a staple of what we do, we build our team from the relays out. We went there to get both our relays qualified for the national meet, and we’re very happy we were able to do that now, so now we can focus more on the individual stuff,” Holloway explained.

The Gators will be heading to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the first of three trips there this season as they compete in the Razorback Invitational.
