The Patriots win the Super Bowl, National Signing Day a couple of days away, and more in our Monday Sports Update…
** The New England Patriots win this year’s Super Bowl by beating the Seattle Seahawks 28-24. With Seattle on the Patriot one yard line and driving to win the game, Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson throws an unlikely interception that seals the game for New England.
** Seattle and former Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn will be leaving the Seahawks to become the new head coach of the Atlanta Falcons; reports have him signing a five year deal.
** The 2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame class has been announced with players Jerome Bettis, Junior Seau, Will Shields, Tim Brown and Charles Haley being newly enshrined. Center Mick Tinglehoff is voted in as a senior nominee with Bill Polian and Ron Wolf going in as “contributors.”
** National Signing Day in college football is just two days away and Florida currently has 13 verbal commitments but many more interested in Florida have yet to announce their decisions. Florida did pick up a verbal commitment yesterday from defensive end Luke Ancrum from Sebring.
** Novak Djokovic wins the men’s singles title at the Australian Open, beating Andy Murray.
* Brooks Koepka wins his first PGA title by winning at the Phoenix Open. He won by one stroke over a trio of others.
