** The Florida softball team is now 6-0 after crushing Jacksonville 16-1 Wednesday. The Gators open their home season this weekend, hosting North Carolina State and Iowa.
** The Florida lacrosse team also beats JU Wednesday 17-8 to square their season record at 1-1.
** Both Gator basketball teams play tonight; the Gator men host Ole Miss while the Gator women are at Georgia.
** College basketball coaching legend Jerry Tarkanian has died at the age of 84. While the Hall of Fame coach worked at three schools, he is best remembered for his success at UNLV.
** Tiger Woods is taking time off the PGA Tour, saying he needs to work on his game and he adds he won’t return until he believes he can truly play well and compete. Woods got off to a terrible start to the 2015 season, missing a cut and withdrawing in another tournament.
** In SEC men’s hoops, Tennessee beats Vanderbilt 76-73 in overtime and Georgia goes on the road to beat Texas A&M 62-53.
** In the NFL, Tampa Bay has released quarterback Josh McCown and the Indianapolis Colts release former Gator offensive lineman Xavier Nixon.
