In terms of weather, it was a smooth first week for the Florida Gator football team’s spring schedule as there were no postponements or delays. Monday’s practice however could not survive the heavy rain that went through Gainesville, causing practice to be postponed to today.
Weather will not be an issue once the construction of the indoor practice football facilities is completed in late summer.
As for the product on the field, UF head coach Jim McElwain is pleased with the progression on both sides of the ball.
“The defense is well ahead right now. There is some really good learning going on offensively. I feel really good about how they are picking it up and that’s been real positive.”
One thing that McElwain and his entire staff has preached the entire spring is that preparation is the number one key to success. Not only on the practice field, but in the film and weight room as well. McElwain discussed the tremendous advantage of having players with iPads.
“There’s a lot that they do good. It isn’t just about the negatives. There’s ways maybe you can step a little better that might help you in the execution. Those have been the keys we pick up. Those off days in between are huge.”
Practice begins today at 3:30. The Orange and Blue Debut is still scheduled for April 11th. The game may or may not be cancelled due to the lack of depth at offensive line.
