The Gator softball team had a tough time with the visiting Ospreys from the University of North Florida on Wednesday at home as Florida nips UNF 2-1 in eight innings.
Florida led 1-0 and the Gators had a combined perfect game going but in the top of the seventh inning UNF’s Shelby Duncan hit a solo home run to tie the game, break up the no-hitter and send the game into extra innings.
But in the bottom of the eighth, Florida won the game on a Janell Wheaton double that scored Taylore Fuller.
But before the game winning hit, it was a rather frustrating offensive night for Florida. The Gators left 12 runners on base in the game.
Florida started Lauren Haeger in the circle and she went five innings before being removed for reliever Delanie Gourley. After Gourley gave up the game tying homer, Haeger returned to pitch in the seventh and eighth innings and got the win.
Florida next plays at home this weekend in a three game series with South Carolina.
