Florida Lacrosse Travels to Face Marquette In First-Ever Meeting

Florida lacrosse will hope to stay undefeated in conference play when it travels Wednesday to face Marquette for the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

“This is going to be a little bit more of a challenge for us,” said Florida head coach Amanda O’Leary. “We’ve never been to Marquette in the past so it’s unfamiliar territory for us. But, it is a challenge, and I think the momentum of Saturday will carry us through, and hopefully on Wednesday we’ll come out of the gates as quickly as we did on Saturday.”

The Golden Eagles are 4-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while the Gators are 9-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Florida has outscored their Big East conference opponents 54-17 this season.

Florida’s latest conference win came this past Saturday when they defeated Georgetown at home 18-4.

“Probably, in my opinion, the best we’ve played all season offensively and defensively,” said O’Leary.

It was a good game for senior midfielder Shannon Gilroy, who finished with a game high eight points (5 goals, 3 assists).

“She (Gilroy) had another amazing game for us offensively and defensively, holding their top scorer to no goals,” said O’Leary.

First draw tomorrow in Milwaukee, Wis. is set for 12:30 p.m.
