The Florida baseball team gets a huge come from behind win and defeats Vanderbilt Saturday 9-7 to take two of three games in this important SEC series.
Florida (38-14, 17-10 SEC) remains in the hunt for the SEC championship and it now stands a game behind Vanderbilt (36-16, 18-9 SEC) in the standings.
The Gators jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead on a three run homer by Buddy Reed but Vandy got two right back on a two run homer by Dansby Swanson in the bottom of the frame off Gator starter Alex Faedo.
The Commodores tied the game on a solo homer by Rhett Wiseman in the third and took a 4-3 lead in the fifth on another homer by Swanson. Florida tied the game 4-4 on a Richie Martin RBI hit in the seventh but Vanderbilt scored three in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-4 lead.
Florida closed to within 7-6 in the eighth on an RBI triple by JJ Schwarz and an RBI hit by Ryan Larson. In the ninth, down to their last out with no one on, the Gators tied the game. Buddy Reed singled, Pete Alonso walked and Schwarz had a clutch RBI hit to send the game to extra innngs.
In the 10th inning, Dalton Guthrie led off the inning with a double and Richie Martin hit a sharp single to left and Guthrie was heading back to second when left fielder Jeren Kendall air mailed the throw back to the infield into the Gator dugout, scoring Guthrie and sending Martin to third. He would score on a sacrifice fly by Josh Tobias.
Vanderbilt got a single to open the 10th but a double play and a fly out gave Florida the win. Taylor Lewis (4-1) got the win with two and two thirds innings of scoreless relief.
Offensively, Reed had three hits and three RBI while Schwarz had two hits and two RBI for Florida. Ryan Larson and Richie Martin also had two hit days.
The Gators end the regular season with a three game series with Auburn at home starting Friday.
