The Florida baseball team earned a little redemption Thursday afternoon against the Auburn Tigers in an SEC Tournament elimination game. Florida knocked off the Tigers by a final of 11-2.
Florida assistant coach Brad Weitzel was pleased with the performance.
“They played great today. Bouncing back after a long night, no one cares and there’s no excuses – you have to play the same way every time, you have to play hard, you have to come ready to play and the swings were a lot better today.”
Florida’s ace Logan Shore finally picked up his seventh win on the season Thursday. Shore lasted 7.2 innings and struck out seven. This was Shore’s first win since April 17th against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Brad Weitzel had this to say about Shores outing.
“Logan had to be shocked when we scored eight in the third inning since I don’t think we scored that many for him all year. He’s pitched really well for us and that’s the first time he could actually enjoy it and let his guard down a little bit and let the ball come out of his hand.”
Offensively UF produced 15 hits including an outstanding third inning where they lit up the scoreboard for eight runs. Senior Josh Tobias lead the way for the Gators, with a four hit game, one hit shy from a single game career high. Peter Alonso had three base knocks and drove in three runs as well.
The Orange and Blue now will face off against Arkansas, a 10-5 loser to LSU in a winner’s bracket game yesterday. You can hear live coverage at approximately 7:30 pm on Country 103-7 The Gator.
