It only took seven innings for the Florida baseball team to gather sweet revenge from the Arkansas Razorbacks in the SEC Tournament’s quarterfinals. After blowing a late game lead earlier this week to Arkansas, UF smashed the Razorbacks by a final of 10-0 Friday evening.
Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan says this is a big win for Florida.
“I think for us the whole thing is about being consistent. That’s two nights in a row where we’ve swung the bats really well and it’s been two really good starts by Logan and by A.J. That’s kind of what we need moving forward.”
Florida starter A.J. Puk delivered one of the best outings UF has seen all season. Puk was dominant in seven full innings of work. He had 11 strikeouts and allowed just three hits while picking up his eighth win this season.
Puk talked about his start after the game.
“Early on, it was a lot of fastballs and then I was able to go with some off-speed and mix up my pitches. My changeup came along really well, and my slider really helped me keep my balance.”
Offensively the Orange and Blue were firing on all cylinders. The young guns provided lots of help with a couple freshmen in Dalton Guthrie and J.J. Schwarz combining for four hits and four run scored. Another freshman starter was Mike Rivera who ended the game when he hit an RBI single to give Florida the game’s last run.
Florida now will face off against LSU today at 4:30 pm in a tournament semi-final game. UF is 3-7 on the season when facing an SEC opponent for the first time. The Gators have not matched up against LSU this season. Last time they played was in the 2014 SEC championship game when the Tigers defeated Florida.
