Day two of the MLB Draft is today after the first round was conducted last night.
Florida shortstop Richie Martin was selected with the 20th pick by the Oakland A’s and Gator signee Kyle Tucker, the younger brother of former Gator Preston Tucker, was selected fifth by Houston.
The SEC had a lot of players taken in the first round, highlighted by Vanderbilt, who had three players taken including shortstop Dansby Swanson, the number one overall pick selected by Arizona.
LSU shortstop Alex Bregman was taken second overall by Houston. Arkansas outfielder Andrew Benintendi was taken seventh by Boston and Vandy pitcher Carson Fulmer went eighth to the Chicago White Sox and teammate Walker Buehler was taken 24th by the LA Dodgers.
FSU outfielder DJ Stewart was selected 25th by Baltimore while Tennessee’s Christin Stewart was selected 34th by Detroit. Florida signee pitcher Jake Woodford was selected 39th by the St. Louis Cardinals and another Gator signee, pitcher Brady Singer, was taken in the second round by Toronto.
LSU’s Andrew Stevenson, Alabama’s Mikey White Kentucky’s Kyle Cody and Texas A&M’s AJ Minter were all selected in the second round as well.
