After a grueling afternoon practice, the head football coach for the Florida Gators walked into his press conference on Thursday looking somewhat drained from a long week leading up to the season opener against New Mexico State on Saturday evening.
However, despite the appeared exhaustion McElwain delivered the news Gator fans have been waiting for, in an ever so casual tone; Treon Harris will be the starting quarterback for the season opener.
“We’re going to go ahead and start Treon Harris in this ball game at quarterback, Will Grier obviously will still play. As we said, someone has to start,” McElwain said.
After the major announcement, McElwain went on say that safety Keanu Neal and offensive tackle Martez Ivey are doubtful to play this weekend due to injuries occurred in practice.
“On an injury note, probably more like doubtful on Ivey and Neal. However, I will say this, they are recovering at a very good pace. ”
Gator fans now know what to expect regarding who will take the first snap Saturday. But how well the team will play as a whole we won’t know until late into the night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm Saturday.
