The UF women’s basketball team looks to keep the momentum alive in the O’Dome on Saturday against Kennesaw State University.
The Gators are coming off of a shocking 82-72 win against previous seventh ranked Florida State University, on Monday. At the end of the first quarter, The Gators found themselves trailing the Seminoles 18-9. Fast forwarding to the end of the second quarter, with six minutes left on the clock, the Gators began to showcase their persistence to upset Florida State and create the biggest comeback in program history.
Second half play came with junior Ronni Williams making dominant plays on both sides of the court and ending her night with a double-double (21 points and 10 rebounds) and it marked her sixth double-double of her career. Newcomers, Simone Westbrook and Eleanna Christinaki, seemed to add an aggressive edge to the final minutes of the game and both had double-figure scoring games to knock off Florida State.
Looking ahead to the 4PM tip-off against Kennesaw State, the Owls are soaring into Gainesville after a 61-52 loss to Jacksonville State. The Owls were lead by senior forward, Jasmine McAllister, who tallied up 16 points and 8 rebounds and junior Deandrea Sawyers, who tallied up 9 points and 8 rebounds.
2013 was the last time the Gators and Owls met up and the Gators came out on top with a 83-62 victory. Florida’s Ronni Williams and January Miller are familiar faces against Kennesaw State. These two both had double-figure scoring games.
The two teams will meet at half-court for tip-off at 4PM.
