Preview: Girls Basketball Regional Quarterfinals and Semifinals Tonight

Many girls basketball games will be played in the area tonight.

In the regional semifinals, Madison County (24-5) will host Hawthorne (17-6), and Williston (16-8) will host Lafayette (15-12) in Region 3-1A. In Region 4-1A, Wildwood (19-7) will host Chiefland (15-3), and Trenton (26-0) will take on Fort Meade (16-6).

Regional quarterfinal games will also be played this evening. In Region 1-6A, Gainesville (19-6) will take on St. Augustine (17-8). Gainesville enters the game with a perfect district record (9-0). The team is coming off a big win over Vanguard, defeating the Knights last week, 47-31. Gainesville High School girls basketball head coach David Gordon says his team has to be ready to play at a high level tonight versus St. Augustine.

In Region 2-5A, Eastside (15-8) will be on the road versus Ponte Vedra (22-10). Eastside recently lost to Santa Fe in overtime for the district title and will be looking to bounce back tonight. Eastside High School girls basketball head coach Keith Ladd says his team will focus on being hard to score on.

Elsewhere in Region 2-5A, Santa Fe (9-18) will host Menendez (13-13) tonight.

In Region 1-4A, Fernandina Beach (27-3) will host Bradford County (11-8), and Keystone Heights (13-19) will host Jax Bolles (8-14). Fernandina Beach has won 20 straight games.

In Region 1-3A, Orlando First Academy will host Oak Hall (16-15). Oak Hall lost to P.K. Yonge last week 54-51. The loss gave P.K. Yonge the district championship game title. Oak Hall High School girls basketball head coach Eric Ringdahl says his team and Orlando First Academy are two very different teams, but both teams like to press.

The other game in Region 1-3A will be P.K. Yonge (18-7) versus Belle Isle Cornerstone. Despite P.K. Yonge’s perfect district record (7-0), head coach Willie Powers says the team is nowhere where it needs to be. He says that in order for the team to succeed, there will have to be a total team effort.

In total, there will be eleven girls basketball games played in the area tonight.
