The top ranked Florida softball team looks to complete a series sweep of the Auburn Tigers Monday night as they play the third of their three game series. The series is huge for the Gators, who are defending their top national rank from the third ranked Tigers.
The series has included some big milestones for the Gators. Florida coach Tim Walton won his 700th career game in the series and this year’s team is now in sole possession of the second best start in school history at 26-0. The record for the best start in Florida softball history, 28-0, belongs to none other then last year’s squad, which has 12 returning members this year.
The series with Auburn has been the most challenging for the Gators thus far. The team hasn’t allowed more than two runs to any team they’ve played up until this series and while Auburn scored three and five runs respectively in the first two games, the Tigers still lost. In fact, Florida has not lost a series with Auburn dating all the way back to 2005.
The first two games have seen some exciting moments for the Gators. Kayli Kvistad’s three run homer to seal victory in the first game and sophomore Nicole DeWitt’s three run homer in the second game were both game changers for the Gators.
Another big performer for the Gators has been Aleshia Ocasio. Ocasio has closed out both games for the Gators, allowing one run in six innings pitched against Auburn.
Tonight, the Gators look to complete the sweep and improve to 27-0. The game is set to begin at 7 pm at the Auburn Softball Complex.
