Preview: Florida Lacrosse Travel to D.C. to Play Georgetown

The No.2 Gators (11-1, 2-0 Big East) hit the road after a five-game home stand in Gainesville traveling to the nation’s capital to face off with Big East rivals Georgetown (3-7, 1-0 Big East) Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field.

Florida is tied with UConn for first in the league standings after having improved their season by defeating Temple 10-9 last week. This weekend, coach Amanda O’Leary is looking forward to hitting the road and says Georgetown will be a challenge.

The Hoyas score 8.3 goals per game compared to Florida’s 12.8 goals per game. They are a strong offensive team nonetheless, with the likes of freshman attacker Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), and senior attackers Corinne Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./McDonogh School) and Kelsey Perselay(Chatham, N.J./Chatham) who have made the scoring sheet so far this season.

The Gators will look to their own offense to put the ball in the back of the net. Freshmen midfielder Lindsey Ronbeck racked up three goals against Temple, which was her season high and junior attacker Sammi Burgess also made the score sheet. If they can show they can penetrate the Hoyas’ defense Saturday,  O’Leary says a league win would be huge for her team.

The battle begins Saturday at noon and will be aired on the Big East Digital Network.
