The Florida soccer team huddles before the start of the second half in their match against Tennessee on Sep. 25, 2016

No. 18 Florida Soccer Travels LSU

SEC soccer continues for the Florida Gators on Friday night when they face LSU in Baton Rouge.

No.18 Florida is currently 7-3 this season and 2-2 in the SEC. Their last match was Sunday night at home against Tennessee. The Gators came out on top with a final score of 2-0. Savannah Jordan, a senior forward, scored the first goal, increasing her team-leading goals scored to eight. The second goal came from freshman Sammie Betters, her first collegiate goal. Both goals were scored in the second half of the game. Redshirt junior Gabby Seiler, said that the reason they are more productive in the second half is they are able to make the necessary adjustments during half time.

LSU has had a less consistent season this year with a 6-6 record (1-3 SEC). Although they have had five shutouts this season, the Tigers only lead their opponents in goals by one, having been scored against 16 times. Florida’s head coach Becky Burleigh said that the key for Florida beating LSU will be to keep up the momentum they have gained recently on both offense and defense.

LSU lost its last two matches, both on the road against then No. 8 South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Now, back at home, the Tigers will be eager for a win against the Gators. LSU is led by junior forward Jorian Baucom, who leads the team with 18 points and nine goals.

The match between Florida and LSU will be on Friday night at 8 p.m. in Baton Rouge. Coverage of the game will be on ESPN Gainesville 95.3 FM.
