The Gainesville Hurricanes (4-4) will attempt to end their season on a high note as they host the Eastside Rams (1-7) on Friday.
GHS is coming off a 38-12 district win against Leesburg at Citizens Field last week, finishing (2-2) in District 5 of Class 6A, good for third behind Forest and Vanguard.
The Hurricanes’ longest winning streak this season is two games, and they will try to match it against the one-win Rams. A win lets them finish the season over .500 a year after reaching the regional finals.
Although this is Gainesville High’s season finale, Eastside has one more game next week at Hardee (Wauchula, FL).
Gainesville is led by sophomore QB Luke Matthews (1,239 pass yards, 10 TD) and junior RB Willie “Missile” McKnight (481 rush yards, 5 TD).
The Hurricanes are averaging 124 yards per game on the ground, compared to Eastside’s 55 rush yards per game. Through the air, the Rams are only averaging 59 yards per game.
In terms of points, GHS sits at 24.6 PPG, while the Rams are averaging under a touchdown a game (6.1 PPG), and have yet to eclipse 21 points in a game this year.
Last year, the Hurricanes won this matchup 41-0, and has won the last four games against Eastside by a total score of 161-0.
Kickoff from Gainesville High School is 7:30 on Friday night.
