Chiefs Shut Down Jaguars to Hand Them Sixth Loss

The Jacksonville Jaguars now have an overall record of 2-6 after losing 19-14 Sunday to the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday at Arrowhead Stadium.  Quarterback Blake Bortles and the Jaguars offense did improve from last weeks loss to the Titans, however it was not enough. Just when it looked like Bortles might be leading his team to a winning drive with two minutes left in the game, the Chiefs defense stuffed them short on fourth down deep in their own territory to secure the win. Jags coach Gus Bradley says his team did not do enough to win the ball game.

At the start of the game, it appeared as though Kansas City was playing with their backs against the wall. Their starting quarterback Alex Smith and starting running back Spencer Ware were listed as inactive and never dressed for the game. And during the game, starting wide receiver Jeremy Maclin had to join the team on the sidelines with a groin injury. Finally, to make matters worse their pro bowl tight end Travis Kelce was ejected from the game by an official after receiving a second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. However, even with all of these disadvantages, the Chiefs still managed to escape with a win.

The biggest problem for the Jaguars is they could not overcome four turnovers during the game- including a fumble at the goal line in the fourth quarter. Despite the turnovers, Bortles was 22 of 41, throwing for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Bortles says he feels as though he is improving with the offense week to week.

Next up for the Jaguars is a trip back home to Jacksonville to face the Houston Texans on Sunday.
