It’s another college football weekend as former University of Florida coach Will Muschamp and his Gamecocks (5-5) take on the Western Carolina Catamounts (2-8) in Columbus, Ohio. The Gamecocks are coming off an emotional  20-7 loss to the Florida Gators. The Catamounts are coming off a loss as well, falling 49-21 to the Furman Paladins.  Both teams will look to right the ship and come away with a victory.Coach Muschamp himself shared his thoughts with the media on the game against Western Carolina.

Gamecocks Look for Bounce-back

South Carolina will look to take advantage of some home cooking, as the Gamecocks are 4-2 at home. The Gamecocks are one win away from being bowl eligible which makes this game even more important. They’ll rely on starting quarterback Jake Bentley who leads the Gamecocks in passing yards, touchdowns and completions. The Gamecocks will also rely on freshman Rico Dowdle, who leads the team in rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns. Coach Muschamp and his Gamecocks hope to win this weekend as they have a tough test next week against the 4th ranked Clemson Tigers.

Catamounts Preview

For the Catamounts, this game marks the end of the 2016 season. The Catamounts will not make the postseason this year, but Coach Mark Spreir will be looking to end the season on a high note. Coach Sprier  and the team will rely on freshman quarterback Tryie Adams who leads the Catamounts in passing yards, touchdowns and completions. Fellow freshman Detrez Newsome will also look to make an impact, as he leads the team in rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns. The Catamounts  have won 2 games at home this season, but are 0-5 on the road.  The odds will be against the Catamounts again as they head into South Carolina hoping to upset the Gamecocks.

This is just the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools. All previous four meetings were in Columbia, from 1986-89. Kickoff is set for Saturday at 4:00 PM.
