Texas A&M Goes Up Against New Mexico

Texas A&M will go head to head with the University of New Mexico in this weekend’s match-up. The Aggies prepare to host the Lobos during their senior night. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.

Breaking Down Texas A&M

This season Texas A&M has a 5-4 record while the Lobos have a 3-6 record. The Aggies also have a 3-0 lead in this series history. However, the team is coming off a loss against Auburn. Nevertheless, Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin puts the past behind him and looks forward to senior night for his team.

Job Insecurity

The uncertainty of maintaining a coaching position is a common emotion going around college football at the moment. With the University of Florida’s head football coach fired midseason, the uncertain feeling isn’t abnormal.

Coach Sumlin explains the situation quite similarly to how UF Coach Jim McElwain felt prior to his firing. Sumlin says he knows what the job entails and is more concerned about his family than anything else.

Talk of his firing heightened after the Aggies lost to the Auburn Tigers 42-27 last Saturday. The media aren’t the only ones discussing the subject. Sumlin’s players have been greatly affected by the news.

According to Sumlin, his players have handled the situation very well.

However, Coach Sumlin also says the situation is out of their hands and the team must carry on.

Star Players

Texas A&M wide receiver Christian Kirk was highly recruited for the Aggies and has proven he deserves his position on the team. Kirk has five receiving touchdowns this season and ended up with nine last season.

Coach Sumlin says Kirk shows strong leadership as both a person and a player.

Kirk doesn’t just lead by example for his fellow players; his coaches are always willing to work with him due to his strong work ethic and powerful mentality. Coach Sumlin says Kirk is a star player a coach could look up too.

Up Next

After going up against New Mexico, the Aggies will head to Ole Miss next Saturday. Meanwhile, New Mexico will host UNLV next Friday.
