WRUF Weather

Early Notice: Coldest Chill of the Winter Coming

Spring may be just around the corner, but WRUF is tracking what will likely be the coldest wind chills we’ve had all season arriving this weekend.  Gardeners and farmers, take note!  It may be tempting to get a jump start on the season considering the warm pattern we are currently in.  Wednesday is the day this all starts to change, as the first of two fronts will be on our doorstep.  The first one will likely bring a round of much-needed rain and thunder Wednesday afternoon, followed by only seasonably cooler air Thursday and Friday.

The set up that will deliver the coldest air of the season to N-Central Florida.

A major shift in the jet stream, the river of upper-level winds that steers weather systems, will allow arctic air to be aimed more directly at The Southeast in the wake of a second front moving through on Saturday.  While confidence is high that it will turn sharply colder by Sunday, the amount of precipitation (if any) we see with the passage of this front is still questionable.  WRUF will have updates on the temperatures and any chances for rain later in the week.
