A strong squall line has passed through the First Coast this morning, causing wind gusts up to 90mph near Cedar Key and a litany of severe thunderstorm warnings. Tornado warnings were issued earlier for Dixie and Lafayette counties but discontinued, however, a tornado watch remains in effect for the First Coast through 3pm.
The severe threat remains for areas east of Gainesville, mostly in the form of strong winds gusting up to 60mph. Heavy rainfall rates of up to 1.5″ per hour are possible, and a low threat of tornadoes remains for areas near the Atlantic coast.
The day will not be a washout, however. The rain should clear Alachua County by noon, and St. Augustine by 3pm. Temperatures will remain in the mid-60s through sunset before falling into the 40s tonight.
