Rivera joins Trevor Hoffman as the only pitchers to get to 600 career saves; Hoffman is the all time leader with 601.
In other baseball action, Justin Verlander wins his 23rd game as Detroit beats Chicago 5-0. Tampa Bay loses 4-2 to Baltimore while Boston rips Toronto 18-6 to move them four games ahead of the Rays in the American League wild card race.
Texas downs Cleveland 10-4 and the Los Angeles Angels beat Oakland as the Rangers stay three games up on the Angels in the AL West.
In the National League, Milwaukee downs Colorado 2-1 as its magic number to clinch the NL Central is eight. Second place St.Louis kept pace by beating Pittsburgh 6-4 while Atlanta beats Florida 7-1 to keep the Braves three and a half games up on St.Louis in the wild card race.
