New York was hammered by Toronto 6-0 to reduce New York’s lead over idle Baltimore to one game in the AL East; the Orioles begin a home series with Boston tonight leading the wild card race by one game over Oakland, a 9-7 loser to Texas.
In the National League, Washington’s magic number to clinch the NL East is three after beating Philadelphia 7-3; Atlanta keeps pace by beating Miami 6-2. New York’s R.A. Dickey wins his 20th game as the Mets down Pittsburgh 6-5. St.Louis has a three game lead over Los Angeles in the second wild card after LA beats San Diego 8-2. The Cardinals host Washington this weekend while LA hosts Colorado.
