There’s a lot of college football this week involving Florida teams. UCF faces Tulane, Florida faces Ole Miss and South Florida takes on Memphis. In the ACC, two key match ups are Florida State at Wake Forest and one that took place Thursday with Miami facing Cincinnati.
Miami lost the game 34-23 as Cincinnati quarterback Hayden Moore, who threw for a school record 557 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions in only three quarters last week in relief of injured starter Gunner Kiel, threw for 279 yards and two TD’s against the Hurricanes.
Miami (3-1) got 113 yards rushing from Joseph Yearby but it was not enough and at times according to coach Al Golden, the Hurricanes did not run the ball well.
“Even on the ones that we were third and one, we didn’t run the ball. I mean third and one we didn’t…we didn’t run it. We didn’t convert there,” said Golden. “On third and three in four down territory we lost and had to punt, but you know we lost yards. So again from that standpoint, you can’t…you can’t do that in this kind of environment and win the game.”
Cincinnati is now 3-2.
The Florida State Seminoles (3-0) are up against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-2) Saturday. The Seminoles are coming off a bye week last week and off a victory against the Boston College Eagles two weeks ago where the game ended in a shutout 14-0.
Wake Forest lost their last game against Indiana 31-24. Last year, the Demon Deacons traveled to Tallahassee and came out with a 43-3 loss.
Florida State is ranked sixth in scoring defense and eighth in total defense nationally. The Nole defense is expected to strengthen with the return of sophomore defensive end Lorenzo Featherston.
“We’ve gotten better. I like how we’re learning to practice better with more consistency. Today was very sharp in the film room,” said Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher of one of the practices this week. “Defensively, offensively I like what I’m seeing right now. Again, we’ve got to take it to the field with consistency. That’s going to be the challenge.”
Wake Forest’s tight end Cam Serigne was quarterback Kendall Hinton’s go-to receiver last week. As the Demon Deacons look to win over a ranked team, Serigne will need to find ways to get open.
